FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Not combustible.
NO contact with dinitrogen tetraoxide, hydroxylamine, sulphur trioxide, hydrogen sulphide, or water.
In case of fire in the surroundings: NO water.
EXPLOSION Risk of fire and explosion on contact with dinitrogen tetraoxide, hydroxylamine, sulfur trioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and water.

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!

  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Sore throat.
    Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. Pain.
    Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
Safety spectacles, or eye protection in combination with breathing protection if powder.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Nausea. Vomiting. Muscle paralysis. Cardiac arrhythmia. Hypertension. Death.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Sweep spilled substance into containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
Separated from food and feedstuffs. Dry. Well closed.
Airtight. Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
    YELLOWISH-WHITE SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The solution in water is a medium strong base. Reacts violently with water, dinitrogen tetraoxide, hydroxylamine, sulfur trioxide, and hydrogen sulfide causing fire and explosion hazard.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
TLV (as Ba): 0.5 mg/m3 (as TWA) A4 (ACGIH 1997).
MAK as Ba: 0.5 ppm; (1996)

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20░C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly when dispersed.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. Exposure far above the OEL could cause muscular stimulation followed by paralysis, cardiac disorders, central nervous system effects, hypokalaemia and death.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: ca. 2000░C
    Melting point: 1923░C
    Relative density (water = 1): 5.7
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20░C: 3.8
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.
    N O T E S
Reacts violently with fire extinguishing agents such as water. Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is indicated. NEVER pour water into this substance; when dissolving or diluting always add it slowly to the water.
    Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-61G64c
    NFPA Code: H3; F0; R2; W
